Throwback Thursday: New York Jets Top the Raiders: 1982 Playoffs

Freeman McNeil may have rushed for over 100 yards, but it was Scott Dierking(above) who scored the game winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.
For this week’s edition of “Throwback Thursday”, we roll it back to the 1982 playoffs, when many Jets’ fans felt that it was finally the year that the Jets’ would make their second Super Bowl appearance.
The Jets were coming off of a Wild Card week 44-17 win over the Bengals, and they traveled to LA to meet Jim Plunkett and the rest of the Los Angeles Raiders.
The Jets led 10-0 at halftime, thanks, in part, to a first quarter touchdown pass from Richard Todd to Wesley Walker, covering 20 yards. A Pat Leahy 30 yard field goal ran the score to 10-0.
The Raiders came storming back in the second half, as a Marcus Allen scoring run and a long touchdown pass from Jim Plunkett to Malcolm Barnwell gave the Raiders a 14-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter. However, the Jets prevailed, thanks to a one yard TD scamper by Scott Dierking(pictured above), to send the Jets to Miami with a 17-14 win.
