With training camp just a couple of weeks away, let’s take a look at one of those preseason power rankings. You know, because when the teams haven’t hit the field yet, nothing is more than to speculate as to what is going to happen before it actually does. Why not, right?
Well, this one is from Jim Wagonner, writing for “SI Live”. He decided to jump into the forecasting 2014 business, so he has the Jets listed at #14.

If you look at Jim’s write up, you see that he doesn’t apply any analysis to each team, so we have to interpret the analysis based on the rankings.
His spot for the Jets’ actually is quite fair. They went 8-8 last year, and are coming into the year with an improved offense. However, we still can’t rank them much higher than the middle of the pack yet, since they haven’t taken to the field. We don’t know whether or not this new, retooled offense, is going to gel together. Sometimes the pieces just don’t fit.
So that is why going much higher than the middle of the pack wouldn’t make any sense, and I think #14 is right.
What do you think?
