New York Jets fans went to work this morning with a little more pep in their step. Per the New York Jets official twitter account, they are confirming that the Jets have signed 2nd round draft pick tight end Jace Amaro to a contract early this morning.

The New York Jets selected Jace Amaro in the second round with the 49th overall pick. In my opinion that was a steal. After a cray first round. It was great to see Amaro still available as the offense playmakers started flying off the board. Despite being a tight end, he played mostly detached from the line so think of him more as a big receiver. He will definitely create mismatches against opposing secondaries; something the New York Jets offense has needed badly in the past few years. Just to recap his physical make up, Amaro is 6’5”, 265 lbs. He has 34” arm length and 9” hands. At that size, with the speed he has, he will be a bulldozer once the ball gets in his hands. I am very confident that Marty Mornhinwheg will do whatever is necessary to get the ball to his play makers, in this case Amaro. NFL Network analyst Charles Smith had some thoughts on Amaro when the Jets submitted their pick (courtesy of NFL.COM)

“I like this pick a lot for the Jets as they try to fortify their offensive firepower. He is a physical route runner. He gets into seams very well. Once he catches the ball, he becomes an excellent ball carrier.” — Charles Davis

I think all around this is a great safe pick for a glaring need of our team. It is very reassuring to see Idzik sign all of our draft picks quickly. Personally I think he learned a lot from the Milliner holdout last year and not letting things drag on into OTA’s etc.
