There seems to be a development in the Rex Ryan contract extension talks. Take a look at a tweet from Ian Rappaport and Kim Jones:
From @KimJonesSports and me: #Jets coach Rex Ryan not getting the long-term extension he covets. Team brass will only give him 1-year deal.

According to the two reporters, Rex is resigned to the fact that this is all he is getting, and will use it as motivation in 2014, believing that his team can win. If he does, you can bet he will cash in big time when they extend him then.
I am actually in the middle here, if the story is true. I certainly understand the team’s point of view. Now Rex will be given a team that will be much better than 2013, thanks to salary cap space and extra draft picks. They want to see if he earns a long-term extension.
But, on the other hand, I am surprised that Rex would want to live with the same questions he did for 2013. Every loss, every bad stretch, the questions about his job security will reappear. Rex is a better man than I if he is willing to go through it. He’s certainly a confident guy.
Nothing is official yet, so we shall see soon enough.
