Per Rich Cimini, of ESPN, Santonio Holmes is officially out for the New York Jets week nine match up against the New Orleans Saints. Holmes has been out since week four, when he suffered a hamstring injury against the Tennessee Titans. So far this season Holmes has 10 receptions for 243 yards, for one touchdown, which came week three against the Buffalo Bills on a 69-yard pass.

After this week the Jets have a bye and then don’t play again until November 17 against the Buffalo Bills. Holmes has made some progress this week by participating in individual drills, so it is expected that he should be ready by then. The bye week gives him an extra week to recover so that he doesn’t need to miss another game.

This comes as no surprise. Despite hearing earlier this week that Holmes had taken part in wide receiver drills, with him not participating in practice, it was very unlikely he would be playing Sunday.

I am thankful that the bye week is next week, because that allows him an extra week to recover so that we aren’t rushing him just because there is a game and he made some progress. I fully expect him to be starting week 11 against the Bills, barring a setback.
