News: David Nelson Receives Fine

New York Jets wide receiver David Nelson was fined by the National Football League for a late hit on Cincinnati Bengals’ Adam “Pacman” Jones. He has been fined $7,875 and plans to appeal. The play has received more publicity this week after news came out about Jones threatening Nelson over it, and a review would definitely follow.
Nelson plans to appeal the fine. This is not all that surprising considering he said earlier that he believes the play was clean. He felt he only did a cut block on Jones, that was near the play, and before the whistle. Jones called the play “dirty” and even complained to Jets head coach Rex Ryan about it. He even went so far as to threaten Nelson over it.
I am not surprised in the slightest that Nelson was fined. This incident became much more publicized Monday when news broke that Jones had threatened Nelson. As soon as that happened, I knew there would be at least one fine. I am surprised I have not yet heard of a fine for Jones though for his actions. Although Nelson is going to appeal the fine, I don’t expect him to win. The league made the right call fining him as the play was dirty.
