Five New York Jets Stay Out of Team Practice

Some bad news out of Florham park today as we find out Willie Colon, Stephen Hill, David Nelson, and Jeff Cumberland did not participate in team practice today. As reported by Rich Cimini, Jeff Cumberland was not dressed or on the field at all which is a bad sign for his potential availability Sunday against the Saints. In some good news Santonio Holmes participated in wide receiver drills for the second straight day, but this of course does not guarantee his return this week. Stephen Hill and David Nelson were both on the sideline doing work on the stationary bikes, while Jeremy Kerley made his return to the practice field from illness.

This is not a good sign for the Jets as they really don’t have much depth at most of these positions. With Winslow Jr on suspension and Jeff Cumberland likely out for this weekend, the former Patriot Zach Sudfeld might hear his number called. As for wide receivers, the corps is thin enough as it is, and potentially without Stephen Hill and most likely Santonio Holmes, the workload will have to be carried by Josh Cribbs, David Nelson (If he can make it back) and Jeremy Kerley. We will have to wait and see whats in the final injury report when it comes out, but even if most of these players make it back it is unsettling to have them missing practice due to injury.
