The worst kept secret in New York is finally no longer a secret.

This morning, the Jets have announced that Geno Smith will be under center when the team takes on Darrelle Revis and the rest of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

No real surprise noted here. Mark Sanchez has not practiced since the injury to his shoulder sustained against the New York Giants. It was just a matter of time before Geno was named the starter.

This is far more about the injury to Mark than it is to Geno Smith winning the quarterback battle. Geno started one game in the preseason, and it did not go well, throwing 3 INTs against the New York Giants.

Mark Sanchez has likely taken his last snap as a New York Jets quarterback. Going back to him will be seen as a step back, barring an injury to Geno Smith. In a “What have you done for me lately?” league, he has done little but turn the ball over for 2 seasons.

So it’s time to get behind Geno Smith. Go get ’em.
