Well, that come off the bench win over the Arizona Cardinals did feel like a lifetime ago anyway.

Take a look at this tweet from ESPN football insider Chris Mortensen:

The Jets have released QB Greg McElroy, paving the way for Matt Simms to make the 53-man roster, per sources.

Not a real surprise here. Especially after Thursday night, Simms outplayed McElroy, and did so by a wide margin.

The knock on McElroy has been the arm strength. Namely that he doesn’t have it. He is a very smart, young quarterback, but didn’t have the arm strength to make it in this league.

It seemed as if there was a time where they thought McElroy was a diamond in the rough, and we all did after he came on in relief to beat the Cardinals last year. But that was a long time ago.

The biggest guy to suffer with this move might actually be Geno Smith, as I have read that he has been a bit of a mentor for Geno. I also have to wonder, is this the Jets finally able to get rid of McElroy after opening his mouth about the locker room?
