Well, my prediction on the final 53 took a hit this afternoon.

It has leaked this afternoon, via Pro Football Talk and confirmed by Jets reporters, that the team has released Antonio Garay. He was brought in here by John Idzik as a low cost signing to try and beef up the pass rush. It never is a good sign when a veteran plays a lot during the 4th preseason game, and Garay played a lot last night. Now we know why.

The play of Damon “Snacks” Harrison made Garay expendable as well. He has performed well enough in the preseason that he didn’t play at all last night against Philadelphia. Helluva job by him, as a second year UDFA, helping take the spot of a veteran.

In other news, Nick Folk has another preseason competition win under his belt, as the Jets also released kicker Dan Carpenter, previously of the Dolphins.

Another guy that made Garay worth of a cut is Leger Douzable. He came out of nowhere to make his presence known. This combined with the quick ascension of Sheldon Richardson made this decision not a surprise at all.

Good luck to Garay as he searches for another team.
