It has been an odd summer for Joe McKnight. He had a head injury that nobody would talk about, he nearly passed out on the field, he was ready to go on Saturday night but didn’t play. We wondered why he didn’t see the field at all, now we know why.
To start the process of getting down to 75 players by Tuesday at 4 PM, the Jets have released 14 players, and Joe McKnight was one of them. To be fair, we had to see this coming, with several other players, such as Kyle Wilson and Clyde Gates, working out at kick returner. Now Joe McKnight is gone.
Here is the complete list, courtesy of the New York Jets:
RB — Joe McKnight, Chad Spann
OL — Patrick Ford, Trey Gilleo, Stephen Peterman
WR — Joe Collins, Marcus Rucker, K.J. Stroud, Rahsaan Vaughn
LB — Sean Progar-Jackson
DB — Donnie Fletcher, Bret Lockett
ST — P Ryan Quigley, LS Patrick Scales
The other relative surprise was the release of Stephen Peterman. He had been working at center in addition to guard. I guess the career of Vlad Ducasse lives on, the pride of UMass.
