It looks like #63 will be reporting as eligible once again.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, the Jets will be bringing back Jason Smith, he of “tackle eligible” fame.  The Jets used him as depth, and would bring him in for jumbo packages as well.

He was released by the New Orleans Saints earlier this week, and speculation was that the Jets were going to bring him back.  Now it looks like this will happen.

There is no negative about this move at all.  We know the Jets can always use more depth on the offensive line.  If you add Smith to a group that includes an improved Vlad Ducasse, Brian Winters finally healthy enough to play, and Oday Aboushi getting better, the Jets have a decent amount of depth up front.

Jason Smith was always a strong asset in the short yardage and goal line situations up front.  There is no reason to think that he won’t continue to be an asset to the team in these scenarios.
