Santonio Holmes is working tirelessly to return to the lineup from his Lisfranc injury. He has also been working hard at coaching up his teammates, keeping his head in the game and staying close with his fellow wide receivers.
However, the idea that Santonio will be ready for the opener against Tampa Bay seems to be fading away, and fast. Holmes met with the media for the first time in a while yesterday, and talked about the prospects of playing on opening day.
I can’t really count that far ahead right now. I have to go with the steps that are in front of me, which is getting better today, look forward to tomorrow, working inaudible.
Tone has never sounded very confident that he can get back in time for week one, so this is not really a change. He sounded pretty much the same at his charity event a few weeks ago. Here is what he said about what he can’t do right now:
Right now I can’t run, so I’m continuing to take it day-by-day, (and) do the necessary things to get better.
I am no medical expert, and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. But, I have a feeling that if you can’t run, you can’t really be an effective wide receiver. It seems like Mr. Tone Time is a long way off.
We might not see him for a while.
