We made it through the offseason! Football is finally back! Tonight is the night! Coach Ryan takes his New York Jets to Detroit for a preseason opening battle against the Detroit Lions. As we know, both quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith will see time with the starters, as the quarterback competition hits the next level.

Tonight, we will be watching the wide receivers and safeties, among other spots. Who is going to step up in the absence of Santonio Holmes? Who is going to step up at safety and open a lead in the race to start opposite Dawan Landry. These and many other questions will not be answered tonight, but we will begin to answer them. The game is slated to begin at 7:30 PM.

If you are not in Detroit for the game, here is how to catch it:

The game is set to be televised on CBS tv in our area. For us Time Warner customers, that doesn’t help us very much, thanks to the dispute taking CBS off of our air. At this point, our only televised alternative is SNY, which will be showing a replay of the game at 1:30 on Saturday morning, and at 4 PM on Saturday afternoon.

You can sign up here for the NFL preseason game package, but here as well, we can only watch the game after the final gun.  The advertisement says games are live, but local market games are blacked out until after the final gun.

Needless to say, hopefully the dispute between TWC and CBS will end soon.

As always, we can listen to the game on ESPN radio, 98.7 FM, with Marty Lyons and Bob Wischusen bringing us all of the action. For SIRIUS subscribers, you can tune into the Jets’ telecast on channel 85. You can hear the Lions’ broadcast on channel 111.

Enjoy the game tonight.
