As we continue through the pre-draft season, leading up to the April 25th start of the NFL draft, the mock drafts continue to pop up from anybody and everybody. So, we take a look at another one today, from a pretty well-known expert.

Todd McShay is one of ESPN’s top draft experts, one we see frequently, front and center, on ESPN draft coverage. His third, and latest version of his mock draft has been released, and his draft has fallen into line with most other mocks that are out there. For the Jets, he has chosen………………

I have no problem with Mingo as a top-10 pick. His lack of sack production is being overemphasized, as he often faced extra attention from double-teams. In multiple games I saw on tape, he was limited in a gap-discipline game plan to limit mobile quarterbacks. Yes, he needs to get bigger and stronger to hold up better against the run. He also needs to improve his speed-to-power rush, but he is an explosive pass-rusher already, and his motor is always running. He is athletic enough to occasionally drop into coverage, but he will get paid to get after the QB. That’s exactly what the Jets need on defense.

Mingo measures in at 6’4″, 241 pounds. He ran a top-flight 4.58 forty yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Here are his statistics while at LSU:

We will do a more detailed preview of Mingo at a later time, but we will talk briefly. Clearly, he has the production of a guy that can make an impact at the NFL level. A 4.58 forty yard dash is straight line speed, but that does translate, when you watch him, to a quick first step. He gets that first step on the lineman and he is gone. He does need to improve with his hands though. When the tackle gets his hands up on Barkevious, he sometimes has a hard time making a move.

Bottom line is that, in my opinion, the Jets could do a lot worse than this guy.
