Yesterday, at the annual league meeting in Arizona, was the AFC coaches breakfast. Jets coach Rex Ryan spoke during the breakfast, and one of many topics on the media’s lips was the continuing saga of the cornerback, Darrelle Revis.
Here is what Rex had to say on the subject of a Darrelle Revis trade:
“I know for a fact that we’re not actively trying to trade Darrelle Revis,” Ryan said. “But if somebody calls, you listen.”
He went on to talk about how any Revis trade talk right now is mere speculation, but he understands how the game works and he is not “naïve”.
Of course, whenever coach Ryan talks about his star cornerback, it is going to be news. But, despite the Rich Cimini’s of the world, this really isn’t breaking any ground. Instead of providing insight, Rex merely stated what we already knew, so there really is no need to pay too much mind to it.
We all know that Rex does not want to get rid of Revis. Why would he? He is a defensive coach and he INHERITED maybe the best guy to play his position EVER. Of course he doesn’t want to get rid of Darrelle. But, he understands that football is a business, and sometimes these moves have to be made. John Idzik is in control, Rex knows he has to coach the football team, and not worry about trades.
That’s all we heard yesterday. And we already knew that. So again, just as the other day when we talked about the comments made by John Idzik and Woody Johnson, don’t let the media make you crazy with these comments. You already knew them to be true.
