Make it a trifecta for John Idzik and the Jets today.
As reported earlier, the Jets made 2 acquistions signing running back Mike Goodson and OG Willie Colon. Just a while ago, it was reported that the Jets have signed former Chargers defensive tackle, Antonio Garay. The word is that he has been brought in to be a veteran influence, replacing Sione Po’uha and Mike DeVito, to mentor guys like Kenrick Ellis and Damon Harrison.
Garay, now 33 years old, came into his own in 2010 and 2011. In those two years, he posted 8 sacks over two years, including 5.5 in 2010. Injuries unfortunately derailed his 2012 campaign, limiting to 8 games, 16 tackles and 1 sack.
We can see that John Idzik’s plan is starting to show itself a little bit. Despite the salary cap problems, the Jets are starting to find those mid-level, bargain priced players that can have an immediate influence on this football team.
This is what you are going to see going into 2013. John is going to have to make the most he can with a little bit of money, and then once the money falls off the cap in 2013, the Jets can make some bigger moves.
But, the moves today, kudos to John Idzik and his staff. It’s a great beginning.
