General manager John Idzik finally has replaced a player via the free agent market.
Reported by Adam Schefter, and confirmed directly by the team, it has been announced that the Jets have come to terms with free agent running back, Mike Goodson. The deal is for $6.9 million over three years. This comes just a couple of days after the team lost former number 1 back Shonn Greene to the Titans.
We have discussed this in previewing Goodson in the past, but it is worth repeating: this guy does have potential. In limited carries last season, he did rush for 6.3 yards per carry, making the most of every opportunity to touch the ball. He runs at a clip of 4.5 yards per carry for his career, and his 40 reception season with the Panthers is significantly better than any Shonn Greene total.
We will obviously see how this one will work out soon enough, but the bottom line for me is that, for a team that is financially strapped, this is the type of mid-level move that just might work.
