I guess the Po’uha move didn’t allow for DeVito to come back after all.

Earlier today, we reported that the Jets had parted ways with long time nose tackle Sione Po’uha. At the time of the announcement, we speculated that the $3.8 million the Jets saved by letting Po’uha go would give the Jets the chance to retain Mike DeVito. That was not to be.

The fan favorite has signed a three year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. Here are the financials, courtesy of our friends at Arrowhead Addict:

  • $4.2 million signing bonus
  • $850 thousand 2013 base salary is fully guaranteed
  • $1 million of 2014 base salary is injury guaranteed

I think everyone reading this can agree with me, I love Po’uha, not nearly enough for that kind of cash.  He was a nice, lunch pail type player, that worked hard and earned the fan’s cheers for good reason.  But, he never did much in the passing game.  He was tough against the run, but you know what?  They can fill in a guy to handle that job.

It was fun Mike, good luck out in Kansas City.  Many of us will be rooting for you.
