It looks like a warrior from the Jets front lines, will be on those front lines no more.

Rich Cimini, from ESPN New York, among others, is reporting at this hour that the Jets are set to release Sione Po’uha. This is no real surprise to anyone, as he was severely limited in 2012 thanks to a back injury that would not go away. He also is 34 years old, which is the wrong side of the big 30, especially when his back is not stable. To play on the inside, you need a strong back to push back against the big linemen. Expecting a 34 year old player’s back to get all the way back to full strength is a lot to ask.

Saying goodbye to Sione saves the Jets approximately $3.8 million against the salary cap, as they work hard to put themselves into position to make moves after the free agent period opens this afternoon. Does this extra money help bring back Mike DeVito? Others? We will find out in the coming hours and days.
