Well, official free agent visits can not occur until after Tuesday at 4 PM. But as expected, the rumors are starting to come out as to who is going to talk to who, and the Jets are no different.

According to the New York Daily News, the Jets are making it a priority to talk to Cowboys’ linebacker Victor Butler.  We suggested this idea weeks ago, take a look at our take on Butler here.

He has played in a reserve capacity for the Cowboys so far in his career.  Last year, Butler recorded 21 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

In limited chances to play, Victor Butler has been productive, as he has posted 11 sacks over four seasons.  His PFF grade last year was a 7.2, ranking him, despite his limited snaps, the 7th best overall for outside linebackers.

We don’t need to go over the desperation within the ranks to fix our linebacker position.  They were slow.  Heck, they re-defined slow.  They may still go pass rusher like this in the draft, even if they acquire Butler.  He graded out quite well, despite only 299 snaps in 2012.

The limited playing time should keep the payday down, as he hasn’t earned a big payday yet.  A guy that has been that productive on a limited basis, shows the potential, based on the numbers, to be quite great.

The Jets have a chance to buy a guy low, with the potential of selling him for high.  I am all about this move.  Assuming he is still free come Tuesday, get him in here!
