The Jets weren’t expected to use the tag, but now they officially haven’t.

The 4 PM deadline to give players the Franchise tag has come and gone, and the Jets have not tagged anyone. There isn’t a real surprise here, as we have talked before, there weren’t many candidates for the Jets to tag to begin with.

LaRon Landry couldn’t be tagged due to his contract, there was no way the Jets were going to tag Shonn Greene. It didn’t seem likely that they would tag either of the guards (Brandon Moore/Matt Slauson). Theoretically, they could have tagged Nick Folk, but I guess John Idzik sees what I see, that giving the Franchise tag to a kicker/punter is really silly.

So that left Dustin Keller. We have had this debate many times, not going there again. This shows us that it seems more likely than not that Dustin Keller will have the opportunity to test the free agent market.

Some will be happy about that. We will see in just over a week, what will happen.
