Could this guy be a low cost answer for the Jets?

Our friends at Pro Football Focus have taken a look at the needs of the Jets, and one position they talk about is outside linebacker.  Not that we didn’t know that already, as it’s almost a guarantee that the Jets are going to gut the position by releasing Scott, Pace and Bryan Thomas.  What WAS news, however, was the free agent suggestion that they made to replace them, Victor Butler.

He’s an interesting choice, as he has been in the league for 4 years, but only started two games. However, in his limited time on the field, he has been quite the productive linebacker, with 4 forced fumbles and 11 sacks. He only played in 299 snaps this year for Dallas, but earned the 7th overall ranking for outside linebackers from PFF (7.2), which blows away the Jets closest ranking OLB, Bryan Thomas (0.3).

He has all the makings of a guy that if given the chance to start, could be the impact outside linebacker that the Jets’ defense has been crying out for. And, being a backup for his career, won’t cost a lot, which could fit right in with the Jets off-season plans.
