2013 NFL Mock Draft: The New York Jets Select…….

By Sean Lester Durham

The Weekly 2013 Fansided NFL Mock Draft has been released and this week the guys over at Fansided has a familiar face being drafted by the Jets at #9.  Familiar because they have linked the Jets and this player numerous times since they began their early Mock Draft Posts in December.

Fansided continues to believe that a pass rushing DE/3-4 OLB is the right selection for the Jets and considering who is on the board at this time in this mock draft, I believe Oregon’s DE Dion Jordan is the best selection for this Jets team and would undoubtedly fit in perfectly to Jets HC Rex Ryan’s defense.  Here’s a write up I did on Jordan a few weeks back when he first showed up in the mock and was linked to the Jets;

“The Jets struggles at pass rush has been quite evident over Rex’s tenure here and it’s way past time for the Jets to fix this issue.  Unlike the other pass rushers in the draft (Jones, Mingo and Moore), I believe Jordan is more of a raw prospect that would require more time and coaching to essentially and ultimately get the best out of him but I DO believe he has the intangibles to be a very good OLB in the NFL and that includes his uncanny ability to drop into pass coverage during his tenure at Oregon.  While at Oregon, Jordan was a solid pass rusher but an excellent pass defending LB, something the Jets can certainly use with having to defend some of the league’s best TE’s in Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski in New England.”

Bottom line;

I’m OK with the selection but Jordan slightly injured his shoulder in his Bowl game and should require monitoring but the injury doesn’t look to be severe and he may still be able to participate in the NFL Combine late next month so we can get a better look at him before the draft.  If his injury does lingers on into April and through the Draft and the draft shapes up like THIS Mock Draft has it; Chance Warmack, Sam Montgomery or trading back for better value would all be better options in my opinion.

For now, lets look at some Dion Jordan highlights….enjoy:
