Dolphins’ Assistant GM Brian Gaine is one of three candidates coming in to interview with the Jets for their vacant GM position today.
It is set to be a busy day in Florham Park today in the quest to find Mike Tannenbaum’s replacement.
The Dolphins’ assistant general manager, Brian Gaine, is scheduled to come in for an interview today. He has ties to the team, as he was a practice squad tight end, and worked in Bill Parcells’ scouting department. As someone brought in by Bill Parcells, his lineage from Bill will be quite appealing to one Woody Johnson. Is that the direction that they want to go? Not sure.
The Jets are also schedule to interview Omar Khan, the Steelers’ Director of Football and Business Administration. His expertise is in contract negotiations and salary cap navigation. The Jets have had issues with this of late, although it was Tannenbaum’s area of “expertise”. Would the Jets fanbase accept another contract guy as the GM? Hard to tell.
Finally, word came out later last night that a “mystery” candidate would be interviewing as well, and that they were a former GM. Manish Mehta reported that the candidate is Jerry Angelo, former GM of the Chicago Bears, but at the time of writing this, we hadn’t heard that from a second source.
This we know for sure, the Jets are desperately trying to find a new group of candidates to choose from.
