This morning we take a look at another player that the Jets are showing interest in for the middle rounds. Spotlight on WR Chris Givens, Wake Forest.

He measured in at 5’11” 198 pounds, and ran a 4.41 40 yard dash at the NFL combine.

He caught 83 passes for 1330 yards and 9 TDs in 2011.

Pros: He’s a legit deep threat, that explodes off the football.  He has a good vertical leap, and is a natural route runner.  He plays well against press coverage when he can get a quick jab step.  He also shows excellent footwork.

Cons: He’s tough, but not known as really physical.  He catches too many passes against the body.  He also doesn’t put a lot of effort into his blocking.  He may not be as athletic as some of the top receivers in the draft.

Take a look at the video, and you be the judge:

He definitely is talented, no doubt. I can see a bit of what they talk about when they say he catches passes against the body. The first pass in that video, he is wide open, but doesn’t look like makes quite a clean catch with the hands. It also worries me if he doesn’t block well, which is a problem for the ground and pound.

If he is coachable and will work on his blocking, he could make a good value to the Jets in the middle rounds.
