Now we can say it this time, Tebowmania is headed to Gotham, offically!
Well, Florham Park, officially. After a contract snafu that almost cancelled the trade, the Denver Broncos have officially dealt Tim Tebow to the New York Jets, along with a seventh round draft pick, in return for the Jets 4th and 6th round picks, the same compensation as discussed earlier. The difference this time is the Jets have agreed to pay back $2.5 million of the $5 million to the Broncos, which was advanced to Tebow in salary.
The issue earlier was that the Jets were unaware that the Tebow’s contract required repayment of the $5 million in advanced salary he received from Denver.
Reports are that Tebow had his choice of the Jets or the Jaguars and he chose the Jets. Makes you wonder if he was given assurances that he would compete for the starting job. Why else would he choose the Jets, over a team that clearly is in flux at quarterback.
I still think this is a move that could have high reward for the Jets, but also doesn’t come without risk. It makes 2012 a major year for the Jets. I’ll be back with more on that later on tonight.
