REPORT: Brett Favre would play for the Bears

What would the holidays be without a Brett Favre rumor?

According to a source familiar with the former New York Jets quarterback, Favre would listen if the Chicago Bears made an offer to him.

The Bears have not contacted the 42-year-old Favre, and it is unclear whether they are even interested.

The source also said Favre has been working out and staying in shape.

Head coach Lovie Smith, for one, is not interested.

“That’s our group,” Smith said of the three quarterbacks on the Bears’ roster. “We’re going to make improvements with our group. We’re not looking on the outside. We won’t have a quarterback tryout or anything like that.”

Chicago lost 10-3 to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday with quarterback Caleb Hanie throwing three interceptions.  He has has thrown six picks in his last two outings — both losses.

The Bears are 7-5 and currently fighting for the 2nd and last playoff spot.
