Perhaps it wasn’t ‘rotation-related’ after all.

Just days after being benched in the New England Patriots loss to the New York Giants, the Patriots have released defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth.

Haynesworth was benched after blowing an assignment on a Giants TD in the third quarter on Sunday.  Haynesworth was seen on the sidelines screaming with Defensive line coach Pepper Johnson.

Head coach Bill Belicheck, however, refused to call it a benching.

“We had a lot of defensive linemen active, so they played in different rotations,” coach Bill Belichick said Monday when asked about Haynesworth’s disappearance via Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald.

Pressed further, Belichick replied: “It was rotation-related.”

Stay tuned on what Belichick calls the release of Haynesworth.
