Patriots Julian Edelman arrested

More trouble in Patriots land.
In addition to losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, New England wide receiver Julian Edelman has been arrested for indecent assault and battery in connection with an incident at a Boston nightclub.
Brian R. Ballou and John R. Ellemen of the Boston Globe are reporting that Edelman has been accused of groping a woman below the waist.
According to the Globe: A man who was with the woman said Edelman bumped into the woman on the dance floor. Police say the victim’s face changed into shock at which point the man confronted Edelman. For his part, Edelman has denied groping the woman but was arrested regardless. His arraignment is scheduled for today.
The Patriots released a statement saying that: “The Patriots are aware of the reports regarding Julian Edelman, and will defer any comments to his representatives at this time.”
Interesting dilemma for the Patriots here. Do they release the receiver or keep him despite what happens?
Edelman has been seen as a replacement for Wes Welker in the event Welker and the Pats cannot reach an agreement on a new contract. Welker’s five-year deal signed prior to the 2007 season expires at the end of this season.
