Jets Mason likely talked his way out of town

All the signs were there.   Maybe we will learn the truth in the coming days.

The New York Jets have traded WR Derrick Mason to the Houston Texans for a conditional draft pick.

For Mason and the Jets, caught in a three game losing streak, it has been a wild ride.

There was the report that Mason, along with Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress complained to coach Rex Ryan about offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer; the Jets denied the report before Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots; Mason was benched for his complaints, which he denied doing; and, Mason was shipped out of town.

Of course the recent emergence of rookie Jeremy Kerley made the decision to trade Mason easier.  Kerley caught three passes against the Patrios, including his first NFL touchdown.

Before the season, Ryan predicted Mason would catch 90 passes this season. Of course that hasn’t happened, as Mason has 13 catches for 113 yards and no touchdowns.

“Let’s face it, I thought Derrick would catch 80 to 90 balls, but that hasn’t  happened,” Ryan said Monday.
