The Indianapolis Colts have a problem.

QB Peyton Manning is still injured and his availability for the season opener is now officially in jeopardy.

Colts Owner Jim Irsay says his team might need to start looking for a backup. Fast.

Irsay posted the following comments on his Twitter account after the Colts were defeated in their preseason game:  “We r evaluating the QB sitch, (hash)18 healing but we must 2 b prepared 4 early season possibility without him, defense has 2 pick it up,big time!,” Irsay wrote.

During a conference call with reporters, coach Jim Caldwell said Manning hasn’t been cleared to practice.

Curtis Painter, the Colts current backup has started both preseason games.

The New York Jets do not face the Colts this season in the regular season.
