New York Jets only offered Asomugha three year deal

In his Monday Morning Quarterback column, Peter King of Si.com reports that the New York Jets, possibly as not to offend their CB Darrelle Revis, offered free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha a 3 year deal at $30 million; well short of the 4 year, $48 million deal that Asomugha would agree to with the Philadelphia Eagles.
King outines that the Jets deal would provide a salary of $8 million this year, $10 million in 2012 and $12 million in 2013. A fourth option year was there, but would not be retained by the Jets due to its increased value.
With Revis at $11.5 million a year over four years, the Jets allegedly did not want to offer more than their star CB makes, and did not want to have their two CBs making 20 percent of the team’s salary cap in the coming years.
