Jets Plaxico Burress injury update

This is clearly not what New York Jets fans wanted to hear.

After being released from prison in June after serving a 20 month sentence on a weapons charge, the worry of an injury definitely crossed several NFL teams minds when it came to Plaxico Burress.  The Jets were not one of them as they guaranteed a 1 year deal at $3 million.

Reports out of Jets camp today are that Burress “tweaked” his ankle and could not participate in practice.

Burress had been working out in South Florida with several NFL quarterbacks, including Matthew Stafford, Brady Quinn, Drew Stanton and Byron Leftwich.

“This is not a major injury,” head coach Rex Ryan said, adding that Buress may miss “one or two days.”  Burress has been in camp for a few days and injured himself working out on his own.

The Jets will now take it easy with Burress and expect the WR to be fine for their opener on Sept 11.

“Yesterday I was running around trying to stay sharp and I rolled it a little bit,” he said.

With the release of Jerricho Cotchery almost imminent, the Jets will have Santonio Holmes and about to be signed Derrick Mason as their WRs.
