Braylon Edwards avoids Jail

New York Jets free-agent wide receiver Braylon Edwards avoided jail time in his probation violation hearing heard in Cleveland Municipal Court today.

Edwards was given 100 hours of community work service and one year of active probation, according to a court spokesman.

The violation hearing was in response to Edwards’ guilty plea last week to DWI in New York.

Obviously this is great news for Edwards in that he is free to play, for now, in the NFL and can sign with any team, pending any action that could still be taken by the NFL.

With the Jets signing of Santonio Holmes, it appears that unless Edwards takes a pay cut to remain with Gang Green, he will be playing elsewhere this season.
