Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Vernon Gholston was a terrible pick by the New York Jets.

Now, Mel Kiper has made it official. ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has released a list of his 40 biggest non quarterback busts since 1978.

On the list: Defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson and OLB Vernon Gholston.

According to Kiper, Robertson, the fourth overall pick in 2004 recorded “Only 16 sacks in his career for a guy we thought would really penetrate and be a menace.”

As for Gholston, the sixth overall pick in 2008, Kiper says it’s “Finally time to call it what it is. Amazing physical skills, but not even Rex Ryan could save him.”

2008 was a powerhouse year for RBs. With the departure of Thomas Jones, it would have been nice for the Jets to select either Chris Johnson (24th pick), Ray Rice (2nd round pick), Matt Forte (2nd round pick), Jamaal Charles (3rd round pick)
