New England Patriots LB Brandon Spikes has tested positive for a banned substance and has been suspended for the last four games of the regular season.

The substance is one that is banned under the league’s policy on steroids and related substances.

Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports that Spikes has decided not to appeal suspension.

Spikes has played in all 12 games this season, starting eight. He has 61 tackles. His INT off Mark Sanchez last Monday stalled a Jets drive at the Patriots 5.

Spikes has become a main player on the Patriots Defense and the team will sorely miss him.  The Patriots’ last four games are against the Bears, Packers, Bills and Dolphins.
