Rackers signs with Texans

Well that was a wicked googily…

In an unexpected turn of events, former Cards kicker Neil Rackers has skipped his visit to Florham Park and signed a 2 year deal with the Houston Texans.  Rackers signed a 2 year, $4.1 million contract (with only $350,000 guaranteed).

Seems like the Jets would have offered more guaranteed money to Rackers ($1.5 million perhaps), but Rackers obviously wasn’t concerned about competing in Houston with Kris Brown and feels he will win the starting job. If he doesn’t, maybe the Jets will still need a kicker come September.

While not the time to panic yet, the Jets are faced with Nick Folk being the starting kicker rather than Feely. uh-oh…

Letting Feely go to Arizona proved a couple of things:

1. The Jets aren’t too concerned with kicking;

2. The Jets believe Folk can be their guy; or

3. The Jets will sign a kicker before the season.

Hey, Shayne Graham is still out there, Rex. (Remember him?)
