Jets to release Thomas Jones

By Marc A. Greenberg

The Jets certainly appear to be changing things up this year.

After Thomas Jones refused to re-negotiate his contract which will require a $3.3 million roster bonus and $2.8 million salary for the upcoming year, the Jets appear set to release the RB.

While Jones, 31, would appear to be the Jets 3rd RB this upcoming year behind Shonn Greene and Leon Washington, nothing is certain in the NFL. Leon is coming off major surgery and Greene has been bothered by bad ribs on two occasions this season, most recently the AFC championship against the Colts.

The issue now becomes whether the Jets will be able to sign a big time player at Jones salary. There are some top-quality CBs out there that would go nicely with this defense.
