The Thin Green Line

There can be much speculation and debate as which player was the best free agent siging for the Jets this off-season but some critics will claim the best move the Jets made wasn’t bringing in a new player but a new coach. Bill Callahan comes to the Jets with head coaching experience with the Oakland Raiders and the Nebraska Cornhuskers but has been pegged to coach the offensive line. The most important unit on the team? Helmed by Bill Callahan? The same man who was nearly run out of town in Oakland and Nebraska? Well it might just be the Mike Tannenbaum has hit a home run evaluating coaching talent. Callahan is widely regarded as being one of the best offensive line coaches around and while he took the Raiders to the Super Bowl might have been playing against type as the top tomato. So far the players are responding to Callahan’s style and if he can coax the most return on Jets investment in Brick Ferguson and Nick Mangold he might be worth a whole line of Faneca’s.
In other non-news the Jets signed a tight end. A.J. Schable. Yes, that A.J. Schable. Is Chris Baker on his way out of town? Well he hasn’t made it easy to want to keep him by being a first class jerk…and this from a player on the cusp of mediocrity. What is a Chris Baker worth on the trade market? Maybe the Saints would parth with a 5th round pick for Baker…maybe. Anything the Jets get would be better than nothing. It seems like the only person that is not aware that Baker only ranked 19th best overall at his position last season is Chris Baker. In this same blog we also read speculation for a bold quarterback move for Jets. Might not be a bad idea.
