Another free agent has left the building, although this one was a move we have been expecting.

We have been talking all day about the growing certainty that Shonn Greene would be leaving the Jets to sign a deal with the Titans. Well, Adam Schefter reports this afternoon via Twitter that the deal is set.

Titans reached agreement on a three-year, $10 million deal with former Jets RB Shonn Greene.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 13, 2013

Again, no surprise here, as the Jets didn’t seem to make a very active play to bring him back. Nobody in the building really saw him as a good fit for the West Coast style offense of Marty Mornhinweg.

However, he should prove to be an excellent fit with the Titans. Shonne’s brusing, run over you, style, is one that will compliment Chris Johnson’s speed quickly. As far as Shonn is concerned, he actually made a great decision, and may be joining a lethal one-two punch of a running attack.

Tennessee could be a scary team to watch running the football.

UPDATE

One piece of business that came out late afternoon, just a few minutes ago, that the Jets re-signed FB Lex Hilliard to a one year contract. Financial terms were not available at this time.

Well, it sounds as if many Jets fans are about to get their wish, with regards to Shonn Greene.

Reports have surfaced in the last half hour that Shonn Greene, set for a workout today with the Tennessee, will not be leaving town without a contract offer, and is expected to sign with them, marking the end of the Greene era here in NY.

As I mentioned this morning, the Titans would be a great landing spot for Shonn Greene. The biggest issue with Shonn is the fact that he is not a number one back. He’s a great bruiser that can put the foot on the throat of a tired defense, even though he isn’t the fastest guy on the block. If Shonn Greene gets a job working as the backup to the speedy Chris Johnson, that oculd be a pretty lethal combination.

This is the wrong time to kick the guy. The facts are the facts, that Shonn Greene gave Jets fans some wonderful memories, none better than the 2009 TD in the playoffs against the San Diego Chargers. But his great moments were achieved while not the top guy on the chats.

So, it was time to go, and if it comes through, it will be beneficial to both teams.

The process marches on for another Jets free agent.

According to several reports, Jets unrestricted free agent running back Shonn Greene is heading to Tennessee to meet with the Titans. Most Jets fans will be happy to read this news,as there are very fans around these days that believe Shonn Greene should be back with the team. Desite his career highs in rushing yards and TDs, Greene is not the type of back to fit with the new offensive scheme. It is time to move on.

The Titans could actually be an excellent fit for Shonn Greene as well. We have talked about how Greene is not the bell cow back, but is an excellent change of pace from a speed back, right? Well, you can’t get much better than having Greene as a change of pace back to the great CJ2K, can you? It could be the early workings of a deadly one-two punch for the Titans. Add that to the fact that the Titans signed lineman Andy Levitre to a long term deal, and this group could be special, especially on the ground.

This actually could be a situation that is a win-win for all parties involved. Nice to see that, once in a while.
