This week the 2013 Fansided NFL Mock Drive has updated it’s Mock Draft order to reassemble the actual Draft order considering Week 17 of the NFL regular season is in the books.

We thank the guys over at Fansided for putting so much effort into the Mock Draft and getting a jump into the NFL Draft fray sooner than most…..

This week, they have the Jets who officially have the 9th overall pick in the draft, picking on the defensive side of the ball again and frankly it’s a move and player I love …..

The selection…….

Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M

Without a doubt this is a pick that I love and Moore was the Jets selection in the first mock draft and here is a review of my initial assessment of Moore in case you missed it;

Having watch the kid all season (SEC fan right here), it’s not hard to see how and why he’s the best defensive player on Texas A&M’s defense and one of the best defensive players in the country. At 6’4 250, Moore has shown that he has the skills and attributes to be an elite pass rusher as his speed on the edges separates him from other pass-rushers in the country and is one of his best attributes. Moore’s speed on the edges reminds me of a former pass rusher from Texas A&M from just a few seasons ago, one Von Miller. Moore has consistently gotten to the QB this season and leads Texas A&M in sacks (12.5) and tackles (74). Moore isn’t just a pass rusher as he has the instincts to be a very good all-around OLB as his other numbers include; 20 tackles for a loss, 2 passes broken up, a blocked kick and a forced fumble.

Moore would instantly upgrade a Jets pass rush that has severely underachieved in the Rex Ryan era. Paired with the 2 promising DTs Muhammad Wilkerson and Quinton Coples, adding Moore would undoubtedly add that missing pass rushing element to this Jets defense that they so desperately need!

You will have a chance to get a first hand look at Moore this Friday Jan 4th, 2013 as Texas A&M plays Oklahoma in The Cotton Bowl.

The first FanSided 2013 NFL Mock Draft of the year has been released and it’s never to early to start looking at great prospects that fit with the Jets whom Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum will completely ignore for those that don’t. It is still quite early, and the draft board will certainly change as the season winds down, but the guys over at FanSided will update the Mock Draft every week until draft day, pin pointing teams needs and going with the best prospect available.

So here we go;

9. New York Jets – Damontre Moore, DE/OLB, Texas A&M

“The Jets need help rushing the passer and Moore is one of the most underrated players that is draft eligible this season. In order for the Jets coverage scheme to be properly effective, they need the top notch pass rush which they have lacked this season. Adding a guy like Moore would give the Jets defense the boost they need”

Texas A&M DE Damontre Moore would instantly upgrade the Jets pass rush.

Agreed 100%. Except I don’t think he’s “underrated” as he’s appropriately rated just behind Jarvis Jones.

The Jets Achilles heel these past 3 seasons has been consistent play from arguably the 2 most important areas on a football team; QB and Pass Rusher. The fix for what ails the QB position is a whole different chapter, in a different book in a library across town but some would argue that finding the cure to the pass rushing woes can be and should be much easier and I agree.

Damontre Moore;

Moore’s presence on the Jets D-line would instantly start to open things up more for guys like Wilkerson and Coples who both have the propensity and abilities to dominate one on one matchups for the most part. With the development of Jets DT Muhammed Wilkerson and the promise of the freakishly talented Quinton Coples already cemented on the Jets line, adding an highly talented pass rusher like Moore would finally give Rex Ryan the D-line he’s longed for since becoming the head coach of the Jets in 2009 and would instantly upgrade the Jets pass rush, something the Jets should have done already considering they play in the same division as the best QB in the league.
