The Selection:

“9. New York Jets – Chance Warmack, Guard, Alabama

Both guards are free agents this offseason and Warmack is considered by many to be the best overall player in this year’s draft. While the Jets may like to go for a flashier pick, selecting Warmack would be the right call.”

Alabama Guard Chance Warmack would certainly fill a need for the Jets.

The Prospect:

Warmack is the ideal OG as he displays and utilizes excellent technique consistently.  Warmack always plays with ideal pad level, getting lower than his counterpart and using that leverage to open gaping holes in the running game. He’s very smart with his blocks, attacking the proper shoulder and doesn’t make many mistakes.

Warmack is also an exceptional athlete. He pulls with ease, but it’s his body control in space that is even more impressive. Warmack is very light on his feet and slides well in pass protection. There is a smoothness to his game that stands out at his position. He also has the natural strength for the position.  Doesnt get much better than this as far as OG prospects go.

My Analysis:

There are alot of pass rushers still on the board in this mock when the Jets select so I’m quite hesitant to jump on board with this selection as its no secret the Jets absolutely MUST address the OLB/edge pass rusher position but having watch EVERY Alabama game this past season I can say without a doubt that Warmack is about as safe a pick as there is in this draft.  The Jets are facing question marks at OG with Matt Slauson and Brandon Moore facing free agent uncertainty right now.  The Jets dump Warmack in the interior and suddenly the running game gets better thus helping the passing game.  Warmack’s presensce on the O-line would do so much for the offense in general that it’s almost a no-brainer.

The prospects that are still on the board that I would consider over Warmack are;

Bjoern Werner, Barkevious Mingo, Dion Jordan and Jarvis Jones…..

Bottome line; I love the pick and you’d be hard press to find any logical thinking Jets fan that would disagree with this selection considering all the question marks and uncertainty surrounding the top pass rushers.
