Tim McDonald was one of two coaches added to the Jets staff last night.

The Jets made two moves last night to help fill out their coaching staff that lost 9 members since the season ended.

As reported last night, the Jets added Bobby April Jr. to the staff as a quality control coach.  He spent the past two years as a defensive quality control coach with the Eagles, as well as working with their defensive backs.

Late last night, our good buddy Jake Steinberg from “The Jets Blog” reported that the Jets have hired Tim McDonald to the coaching staff, likely to replace Dennis Thurman as defensive backs coach. Thurman is set to be announced as the defensive coordinator in the near future.

Some of our older readers might remember McDonald as a player, spending 13 years in the NFL as a strong safety for the Cardinals and 49ers. He recorded 40 interceptions in his career, was a six time Pro Bowler (1989,1991-1995), a six time All Pro (1989-1996, 1995), and helped the San Francisco 49ers win Super Bowl XXIX in 1993.

Both of these coaches have quality backgrounds, and should make able additions to Rex Ryan’s staff in 2013 and going forward.

The Jets have added Bobby April, Jr as a quality control coach.

Since the Jets season ended, they have lost 9 coaches to either retirement, defections, or firings. It appears that the Jets have hired one.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Jets have hired Bobby April, Jr., to join the coaching staff for 2013 as a quality control coach. For the previous two years, he was a quality control coach for the defense of the Eagles, as well as working with the defensive backs as well.

His dad also has coached in the league for a long time, as a special teams coach. The Raiders hired him this week for their special teams coach position, after he spent the previous three seasons working with the Eagles in the same position. He and his Dad are quality coaches, April will be a good addition to the Jets staff in 2013.

The next big date in Jets land will be about 36 hours from now, when we hear from John Idzik in his first press conference with the team. Maybe we will get some insight as to the direction he is thinking about with this roster? Not normally the Jets way, but we will find out soon enough.
