The Jets announced one move today, bringing Antonio Allen off of the practice squad to fill their open roster spot. Allen had been active for 3 games, recording a sack, making more of his impact on special teams. He is a pair of young legs that will add some depth to the secondary, and make an impact on special teams as well.

It’s a good sign to see Allen activated, as it is a bit of a new leaf for the Jets. For the longest time, we all have been complaining that they are too loyal to their older players, case and point being Bart Scott and Calvin Pace. Bringing Allen back to the active roster shows a change in philosophy, bringing in some fresh legs to add more life to the defense.

What type of impact should we expect Sunday? Mostly on special teams, maybe some situational defensive back play as well. He made an impact the short time he was here before, it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see him make plays now.

For once, Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum actually catches a break.

Antonio Allen had been released earlier this week, much to the chagrin of many Jets fans who hated to lose a young talented player on defense. Well, as I said, Tanny caught a break, as the Jets have announced this morning that Allen has cleared waivers, and been re-signed to the practice squad. Allen showed promise during his time on the active roster, recording a sack and a fumble recovery on special teams. Many fans were suprised this morning that he cleared waivers, but happy to have him back.

In other news, the Jets made the formal announcement this morning that Ricky Sapp has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. Sapp is a fierce pass rusher as we have previously discussed. He showed a lot of promise during training camp before being sidelined with an ankle injury. We look forward to him wreaking havoc in the offensive backfield starting this week in Seattle.

A very curious announcement in Jets land this afternoon, courtesy of our favorite GM, Mike Tannenbaum.

This afternoon, the Jets announced the re-acquisition of WR Jason Hill. He was cut just before the game against the Dolphins. If you recall, he was signed by the Jets on October 3rd, playing in three games, catching 2 passes for 15 yards and one touchdown before getting released by the team just before the Dolphins game at MetLife. It seems that Mike Tannenbaum is getting accustomed to this “revolving door” with players on this team.

The move to make room for Hill was even more curious. To make room, the Jets released rookie safety Antonio Allen. Allen, the Jets seventh round pick in this year’s draft, had gotten more playing time of late, signed off of the practice squad on October 12th. In three games, Allen contributed two tackles, one sack, and a fumble recovery on special team.

Interesting to see the Jets release a guy that was clearly an asset to the youth movement on defense. Not to mention the fact that Hill represents the continual revolving door of players with this team. Odd, just odd.
