<p>For anyone that was hoping that Alex Smith would be acquired by our Jets, that appears to not be happening after all.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000145687/article/san-francisco-49ers-agree-to-trade-alex-smith-to-chiefs">NFL.com</a> is reporting that, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, among others, is being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.  The rumored compensation is two second round picks in the draft, one in the upcoming draft, and one in 2014.</p>
<p>We say &#8220;rumored&#8221; because no deal can be made official until the start of the new league year  on March 12th.</p>
<p>Assuming that this trade goes through, it affects the New York Jets greatly.  Specifically, it affects the ability to trade Darrelle Revis.  This will leave the 49ers with an astounding fifteen draft picks in the upcoming draft.</p>
<p>It has been reported in the recent past that the 49ers are one of the teams interested in the services of Darrelle.  If the 49ers in fact do covet Darrelle Revis, they certainly now have the picks to entice the Jets into moving the best CB in the league.</p>
<p>Hey, if he doesn&#8217;t play in San Francisco, could you imagine him going to Seattle to work with Sherman?  After their Twitter war?  Anything can happen&#8230;&#8230;</p>

<p>It appears that a crisis has been averted in San Francisco.</p>
<p>Michael Lombardi of nfl.com is reporting that the 49ers have come to terms with their incumbent quarterback, Alex Smith. The 49ers were one of the finalists in the Peyton Manning race, and Smith was reportedly annoyed by the courtship of Manning, as he was making free agent visits this week, with the Dolphins and the Seahawks.</p>
<p>This was the move the 49ers had to make, as did Alex Smith. First to Smith. Like it or not, Alex Smith is in the system that is perfect for him. After being drafted number 1 by SF in 2005, no coach has been able to get the results from Smith that Jim Harbaugh was able to. Alex Smith had a career year in 2011, with 17 TD passes vs. 5 INTs. </p>
<p>For the 49ers, they avert major trouble by resigning Alex. After losing out on Peyton Manning, they were in danger of not having a quarterback with any experience, after going to the NFC championship game in 2011. Randy Moss, Mario Manningham, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore are very nice, but if there is no QB in the room, they can&#8217;t do very much. This was a move that had to be made, and good for the 49ers for making it.</p>

<p>Interesting developments in the Peyton Manning situation have come out today.</p>
</div>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<div class="mceTemp">It seems as if the San Francisco 49ers are setting their team up to accomodate Peyton</div>
<div class="mceTemp">Manning.  First we earn that they have signed a 1 year deal with Randy Moss.  Next, they sign</div>
<div class="mceTemp">a deal with former Giants&#8217; wide receiver Mario Manningham on a two year deal.</div>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<div class="mceTemp">Then, we must look at the Alex Smith situation.  Alex has been looking for a long term deal with the</div>
<div class="mceTemp">49ers.  At 27 years old, he may have finally reached his prime in Jim Harbaugh&#8217;s system, throwing for</div>
<div class="mceTemp">17 TDs and only 5 INTs in 2011, amassing 3,144 passing yards and a 90.7 passer rating.  One could argue that</div>
<div class="mceTemp">after years of struggle, Alex Smith has finally found a system that suits his skill set and gives him the chance to</div>
<div class="mceTemp">excel.</div>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<div class="mceTemp">Earlier in the week, we learn that out of nowhere, Peyton Manning had a secret workout with Jim Harbaugh for</div>
<div class="mceTemp">the 49ers.  It comes out today that, due to the stalled contract talks, Alex Smith is going to make a free agent visit</div>
<div class="mceTemp">to the Miami Dolphins.</div>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<div class="mceTemp">The way this is playing out has to make you wonder, are the 49ers closer to getting Peyton Manning than anyone</div>
<div class="mceTemp">else realizes?  Do they know something that we don&#8217;t?</div>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<div class="mceTemp">Allowing this to play out this way is a big risk on the 49ers part.  It&#8217;s one with high reward, but very high risk.</div>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<div class="mceTemp"> <a href="http://thejetpress.com/2012/03/18/is-peyton-manning-headed-west/#more-6032" class="more-link">(more&#8230;)</a></div>
