Sunday afternoon, the Jets return to the place that put a troubling end to the 2011 season, Miami, Florida. We all remember how it ended week 17, no need to rehash. We all weren’t too happy with the performance, or attitude, of Santonio Holmes.

The trip to Pittsburgh didn’t turn out the way Santonio Holmes intended it either, as he recorded 2 catches on the first drive including a TD, and then one catch for the rest of the game. He spent most of the rest of Sunday afternoon dropping passes, and trying to get pass interference calls.

The part we don’t see is Holmes’ work ethic in practice. At Mark Sanchez’s press conference, he talked about how determined Santonio was to get right back at it on Monday:

“The best part about it has been the way we’ve both responded. I really commend him on his attitude and the work ethic he showed today in practice. He wanted to see some of those looks againl, he was talking about them immediately on Monday. It’s easy for someone to shy away from something like that and not bring it up until I bring it up. He was right there on Monday — ‘Hey, let’s talk. Let’s watch this. Look what I see. What did you see? Let’s get on the same page.’ That’s the most encouraging thing.

It’s Thursday, so it’s time for the injury updates. As always, we will list the changes from yesterday’s report, which you can take a look at by clicking here.

First, the updates for the Jets:

DID NOT PRACTICE:

DB Ellis Lankster (Low Back)
DB LaRon Landry (Heel)

There are two downgrades from yesterday, but there isn’t anything to worry about. There seems to be no concern about Lankster playing, and LaRon Landry has been held out of practices all year long.

LIMITED PARTICIPATION:

TE Dustin Keller (Hamstring)
DB Eric Smith (Hip/Knee)

Both of these guys are upgrades, and hopeful to play on Sunday. Keller has been sorely missed, and his past performances against Miami indicate that if he is healthy, he will see a lot of attention. It will be a big break of he can play.

And now for the news we all have been waiting for:

FULL PARTICIPATION:

DB Darrelle Revis (Concussion)
DL Sione Po’uha (Low Back)
DL Quinton Coples (Illness)

The Jets have not officially announced that Revis is playing on Sunday, but all signs seem to point in that direction. Look for him on Sunday, barring a setback. Great news for the Jets, and bad for the Dolphins.

Aug 29, 2012; Arlington, TX, USA; Miami Dolphins wide receiver Marlon Moore (14) is tackled by Dallas Cowboys linebacker Baraka Atkins (59) during the second quarter at Cowboys Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Tim Heitman-US PRESSWIRE

Just a couple of updates for the Dolphins:

DID NOT PRACTICE:

LB Kevin Burnett (Foot)
WR Marlon Moore (Hamstring)

This is Burnett’s first appearance on the report this week, and Moore was limited. These two may not play on Sunday, we’ll update the status tomorrow.

A big focus when watching the New York Jets every week is the running attack. Since the moment Rex Ryan arrived, the team has been geared towards running and defense. The 2012 New York Jets have been no exception. The addition of coordinator Tony Sparano has brought a recomittment to a physical attack on offense. The focus of that attack? Shonn Greene.

Shonn Greene has been a guy under fire with the Jets, especially since 2011, when he became the number one back for the Jets. Prior to 2011, he always had a strong veterman presence behind him, namely Thomas Jones and LaDainian Tomlinson. In 2011, the show was basically all Shonn Greene, and although he finished with over 1,000 yards, there were still the lingering questions as to whether or not Greene can carry the load with the Jets.

The Jets came under fire as well, for not adding running back depth to help Shonn Greene. The one back they did add (Terrance Ganaway) did not make the football team. And yes, it’s a worthy question, as Shonn Greene has had an up and down first couple of weeks of the 2012 season. However, if you look at the numbers, and look at them closely, Greene can be a number one back.

He must get the requisite amount of touches. Specificially, he must have over 20 carries per game.
