Colts vs Jets: Top 5 takeaways from Week 13 matchup

For the Colts vs Jets Week 13 matchup, Gang Green put up such an abysmal performance, they reached an all-time low in the grand scheme of things.

Ah yes, just when you thought the New York Jets couldn’t possibly play even worst football than we’ve seen so far this season, they continue to amaze us. In the Colts vs Jets game, they once again showed no effort, no aggression, and no sense of urgency.

It’s not easy rooting for the Jets this season but at least it’s only a few more weeks before 2016 is officially over. The Jets are also mathematically eliminated from making the NFL Playoffs and with the way they’ve been playing, it’s hard to imagine them even winning another game this season.

Either way, some of the takeaways (or lack thereof) from the Colts vs Jets matchup make for another loss. The Jets can’t seem to get anything right and hopefully give some of their younger players some playing time to develop them for the years to come.

Without further ado, here are the top five takeaways from Week 13’s Monday Night Football matchup.

5. Ryan Fitzpatrick has taken his final bow in New York

Fitzpatrick drew his last straw here in New York as he was finally benched for the rest of the season. After a horrific first half where Fitzpatrick only had completed five completions on 11 pass attempts for 81 yards.

Todd Bowles yanked Fitzpatrick in favor of second-year man Bryce Petty. This was the second time this season Bowles took out Fitzpatrick from the game. To give some fans excitement, Petty will get the final four starts of this season.

Fitzpatrick overthrew his receivers and underthrew them as well. He showed no emotion to get this team back into the game and showed no urgency. It also was frustrating to watch him not to try to make plays on his feet.

This whole time he was just in it for the money and never cared about the team. This is his sixth team in 12 years because of his inconsistency playing on the field. As a fan base, we have to hope that Petty has some good play these next four games. We as fans need to see some positivity and make this team better.

4. Defense couldn’t stop a nosebleed from happening

After a successful 2015 performance, many believed that the Jets defense would be one of the top units in the league. Well, that wasn’t the case this season they have struggled tremendously all season.

The big money players on this team have been horrific as well. Both Darrelle Revis and Muhammad Wilkerson have been the worst at their position this season. Revis is making 17 million while Wilkerson is coming off an 86 million dollar contract extension.

The Jets defense couldn’t stop anything against the Colts offense which is embarrassing. Andrew Luck threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns before being taken out in the fourth quarter. The running game was another story as Frank Gore averaged four yards per carry and finished with 79 yards in rushing.

When the defense came to the sideline you can see on the television Bowles yelling at his players. Bowles was very frustrated and blatantly calling them out during the post-game news conference.

3. Offensive Play calling once again is a huge problem

Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has to change his play calling up because it hasn’t worked all season up to this point. He continues to only trust in certain plays because you see the same plays being called over and over.

Instead of trying to run the ball and doing some screen plays, maybe they should do more cross and vertical passes. Instead of trying to go for the big play, Gailey should try to just keep it basic for Petty and just go with plays that have been successful that have won them games.

They had called numerous plays where as a fan you shake your head in wondering why they even called it. They also need to get everyone involved because they focus on the same player like they did at times.

It continues to show that missing Eric Decker is hurting the offense and not using Matt Forte and Bilal Powell like they did was hurtful as well. He needs to go back to the basics and they need to put more points on the scoreboard.

2. They need to utilize the running game more

Matt Forte has always been a reliable and successful running back throughout his entire career. The Jets now need to take advantage of this and the games they won, they utilized Forte which made the offense multidimensional.

Forte was not used that way they should have been using him and it made the offense one-dimensional. He was not productive as they were these past three games they have won.

If they use the running game more than it could wear out defenses and it will allow the Jets to open their offense more. When they won their three games they utilized the run and made the defenses frustrated.

They are a run style offensive team and they need to stick to that because the passing game is frustrating to watch.

1. The Jets just want to end the season already

Gang Green just shows no heart and desire to want to be playing this season anymore. They have given up on themselves and the coaching staff. This season could have been turned around but they just don’t care.

They just care about making their money and to go party with others they know. This team needs to have a reality check fast because it looks like it isn’t going to change anytime soon. With the playoffs out of the question, we shouldn’t be surprised to see the Jets play the way like they did on Monday Night Football.

The perfect thing was said by ESPN announcer John Gruden, he said “The Jets should head back into the locker room and maybe want to start over.” This is embarrassing and needs to stop immediately.

The coaching staff and some of the players need to be cut or fired from this team. It has been a disgraceful and pathetic showing from the Jets. It has been rough to watch which I don’t think it will get any better until the overall culture is fixed.
