Considering the landscape of fantasy football, any freak injury to your players can and probably will decimate your entire team. However, the good news is, not to sound like we’re cheering for someone’s injury, but with one man’s opportunity gone, another’s presents itself.

5. Running Back Jamaal Charles – Kansas City Chiefs

According to a Yahoo Sports report, it appears that Charles’ injury isn’t healing like team officials thought it would be by now. The star running back suffered a torn ACL during Week 5 against  the Chicago Bears and was forced to miss the rest of the season. Before his injury, he had rushed for 541 yards and three touchdowns. It’s safe to assume that he was on his way to a huge season. As it stands, he’s listed as questionable for Week 1. Head coach

Before his injury, he had rushed for 541 yards and three touchdowns. It’s safe to assume that he was on his way to a huge season. As it stands, he’s listed as questionable for Week 1. Head coach Andy Reid said that it will probably take more time for his knee to heal properly.

It’s a very vague statement to make an accurate prediction. Who knows how long he’ll be out for. If anyone knows anything about running backs, is that their legs and knees are their moneymakers. It’s difficult to make elusive cuts to avoid tackles on a bad knee. Hopefully, if you’ve drafted Charles, you were smart enough to draft his handcuff Spencer Ware.

4. Quarterback Tony Romo – Dallas Cowboys

By now, everyone should be aware of the injury news on Romo. He suffered a compression fracture to his L1 vertebra during a preseason game against Seattle, which could force him to miss six to 10 weeks.

Head coach Jason Garrett has remained adamant of the situation and believes it’s going to be a “day-to-day” case. Although Romo hasn’t been officially ruled out for Week 1, and someone is actually on the active roster, it’s wishful thinking to believe he’ll be back before the given timeframe—especially considering his injury history.

Who knows how long it will take him to fully recover and be able to come back onto the field. Even at that point, he wouldn’t be a reliable player and difficult to trust in fantasy. If Dak Prescott is playing well, would Jerry Jones and company really give Romo’s job back upon his return? We could be seeing a Drew BledsoeTom Brady situation emerging here.

3. Running Back Carlos Hyde – San Francisco 49ers

Hyde makes a lot of fantasy owners annoyed due to his great talent, but proneness to injuries. Last season before his injury, he appeared poised for a breakout season. He had rushed for 375 yards and three touchdowns by Week 6.

He suffered a concussion during the first preseason matchup against Green Bay. Despite not playing in the last preseason game, he was given the green light to play after passing his concussion protocol.

As it stands, he’s officially listed as questionable, and given his injury history, he remains a big question mark heading into the season opener. More news on his availability should develop in the coming days with practice going on.

2. Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall – New York Jets

Marshall proved to be the best thing to happen to the New York Jets last year since maybe running back Curtis Martin in his heyday. The Jets all-time touchdown and yards receiver had a big bounce back season.

Heading into Week 1, he’s listed as questionable with a hip injury. He was held out for the last two preseason matchups, but head coach Todd Bowles remains adamant of the situation. Bowles has already come out and said that it’s just a matter of soreness and that he’s not overly concerned about the minor injury.

Marshall is heading into his eleventh season at age 32, and given his injury history, it should be something to warrant heading into the season. Nevertheless, it looks like all things are a go for him to start the opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

1. Quarterback Carson Wentz – Philadelphia Eagles

The rookie quarterback out of North Dakota State has already been named the starter for the season opener against the Cleveland Browns if he’s healthy enough to do so. Wentz suffered a rib injury during the first preseason matchup against Tampa Bay and hasn’t played since.

However after the trade of the presumed starter, Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings, the team has come out and said that Wentz is starting. It will be wise to pay attention over the next coming days for more developing news on his status. He could be a sleeper if healthy this year.
