NY Jets let one slip through their hands

The NY Jets (4-2) lose a tough one to the still undefeated New England Patriots (6-0) in Week 7 of the NFL.

It was a classic New York Jets-New England Patriots matchup, it came down to a handful of plays and that ultimately decided the game in this one. The Jets entered the 4th quarter with the lead, the only team to do so against the Patriots this season.

The score was 17-16 and the Jets were driving down the field, the Jets faced a critical third down in the red-zone and Ryan Fitzpatrick dropped back and went to his favorite target as he’s done so many times this season in Brandon Marshall, but this time it didn’t work.

Marshall, who’s been heralded for his incredible size, ability after the catch, and his solid hands let one slip right through his hands in perhaps the biggest play of the game. It cost the Jets 4 points and you can’t do that against the Patriots and Marshall was emotional after the game:

Often coaches and players will be interviewed after the game and they’ll bob-and-weave questions about the game coming down to this play or that play when considering the longevity of the game, but Marshall didn’t sugarcoat it. There were a lot of plays the Jets left out there on the field.

From the game-sealing Rob Gronkowski touchdown that was the by-product of blown coverage by Marcus Gilchrist to the Fitzpatrick fumble to start the game, the Patriots don’t turn the ball over and they don’t make many mistakes as they continued that trend in this game with zero turnovers.

The mistakes they made they were able to overcome and it was an unusual amount of dropped passes from Brandon LaFell being activated off the PUP and dropping several passes to even old-reliable in Julian Edelman uncharacteristically dropping a touchdown pass.

Well, the first Jets-Patriots match is over and what can Jets fans take away from this game? Tom Brady and the Patriots still rule the roost, despite a strong effort from the Jets. There is no moral victories in the NFL, but the Jets played the best team in football and held their own respectively.

I was going to post this quote whether the Jets won this game or lost it, this is from the Media Relations Department of the team:

“Winning this game is not going to make us, losing this game is not going to break us,” Bowles said earlier this week.

Wins are tough to come by in the NFL and 7 weeks in and in 6 games so far, the Jets won four of them. This is the Jets first and only back-to-back road games of the season. The Jets will travel to play the Oakland Raiders in Week 8 of the NFL season as they remain in 2nd place in the AFC East.
